FOR CLINICAL PROFESSIONALS

Many men referred to The Place may appear “successful” on the outside—confident, accomplished, financially secure—but internally, they are struggling. Depression, anxiety, trauma, and compulsive behaviors are often hidden behind a carefully maintained exterior. Common patterns include escalating pornography or internet use, compulsive acting out, hidden spending, overeating, or gambling losses. Often, these coping strategies fail, risk escalates, and the individual - and sometimes their family or employer - realizes that it’s time for a higher level of care.

The Reconnection Model® - a trauma-informed psychotherapy model written by Dr. Michael Barta, is the clinical model all staff members are trained in. Each clinician has a master's degree or higher, experience in counseling mental health and impulse control disorders, as well as certification in gambling, gaming, internet misuse and compulsive sexual behavior disorders. The client to clinician ratio is one client to every three clinicians.

How We Treat Your Client

At The Place, our integrated treatment model is designed so that every element works together to support recovery, insight, and long-term stability.

Reconnection Model® Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy
Reconnection embodies the advancements of modern neuroscience, including a deep focus on trauma, the brain, and the nervous system—empowering individuals to understand that compulsive behaviors, are often survival strategies rooted in a need for connection. We provide individual and group therapy grounded in safety, choice, collaboration, and empowerment. Our work addresses trauma, adverse childhood experiences, attachment wounds, and the shame that fuels depression, anxiety, and compulsive behaviors.

Specialized Impulse Control Disorder Treatment
We offer focused treatment for sex addiction, porn addiction, gambling, internet addiction, and related compulsive behaviors using evidence-informed frameworks endorsed by CSAT-ICGGC-I and ICGGC-II training. Interventions include recovery planning, recognition and identification, disclosure, restitution processes, and relapse prevention.

EMDR and Other Trauma Modalities
When clinically appropriate, we incorporate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Psycho-drama, Emotional Healing, and other trauma-focused approaches to help process traumatic memories and reduce triggers that drive acting out.

Psychiatric Care and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy
We provide on-site psychiatric evaluation and ongoing medication management for depression, anxiety, and co-occurring conditions. Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is offered only for carefully selected inpatient cases, under direct medical and nursing supervision, as part of a broader treatment plan.

12-Step and Recovery Coaching Support
Clients receive daily or near-daily exposure to 12-step principles, peer groups, and practical recovery tools. Post-discharge, each client can access a recovery coach for 90 days to bridge the gap between inpatient care and returning home.

Family and Partner Involvement
When appropriate, we engage partners and family members through our Family Care Services Program. This program supports healing, builds realistic recovery expectations, guides personal safety planning, and helps establish healthy boundaries after discharge.

Aftercare and Step-Down Planning
With the resident's permission, we collaborate with referring professionals to share the client’s aftercare plan. This plan will include ongoing therapy with home clinicians, group therapy sessions, intensive outpatient programs if needed, 12-step involvement, virtual support groups, and recovery coaching. Our goal is to make aftercare a bridge, not a detour, supporting the continuity of care and long-term recovery.

How We Collaborate With You

We work as a short-term, focused residential extension of the work you and your client have already started - not a reset that discards prior progress. With the client’s written authorization, we coordinate with you to support continuity, clarity, and a safe step-down plan back into your care.

What you can expect (with a signed release of information):

Before Admission

  • A brief professional-to-professional call allows us to understand your clinical formulation, what has or hasn’t helped, and your assessment of risk, readiness, and family dynamics.
  • When possible, we review recent notes and assessments to avoid starting from scratch.

During Admission

  • Periodic check-ins by email, phone, or video provide high-level updates on progress and emerging themes.
  • Your input may be invited regarding treatment priorities, trauma targets, family involvement, and discharge planning, as appropriate.

At Discharge

  • We provide a concise discharge summary including diagnostic impressions, treatment course, medications, risk considerations, and recommendations for ongoing care.
  • With releases in place, a brief handoff call ensures a smooth, coordinated transition back to your care.
  • Your feedback is welcome - helping us know where we are succeeding and where improvements are needed.

Our goal is for clients to return to you with deeper insight, greater stability, and a realistic plan, not a completely new story that ignores prior therapeutic work.
