About The Place

A Peaceful Setting for Deep Work

The Place is a residential behavioral health treatment center for men located on 52 secluded acres in West Bradford Township, just outside West Chester, Pennsylvania. Purposefully set apart from the pace of daily life, our campus provides a calm, restorative environment that supports deep therapeutic work for men addressing depression, anxiety, trauma, and compulsive behaviors.

The main residence was designed in 1997 by Eric Wright, grandson of Frank Lloyd Wright, as a healing retreat for the North American Swedenborgian Church—now known as the Temenos Church. From its origins, the property was intended as a sanctuary for reflection, restoration, and community.

Surrounded by high meadows, wooded trails, and protected farmland along the Broad Run watershed, The Place offers privacy, quiet, and a sense of physical and emotional safety. Guests arrive via narrow country roads that pass historic stone walls, open fields, and gentleman farms, gradually transitioning from the external world into a space designed for focused recovery. Walking paths wind through forest and meadow, providing opportunities for grounding, reflection, and connection with nature—elements shown to support emotional healing.

The main residence features private, comfortable bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, alongside shared spaces designed to foster therapeutic connection. Large group rooms, communal dining areas, and a wraparound deck create natural settings for conversation, group work, and restorative downtime. Nearby, the Sky Meadow House, accessible by a wooded footpath, houses art and music therapy, administrative offices and the ketamine-assisted psychotherapy program, providing dedicated space for specialized clinical services.

This integration of structured, trauma-informed clinical treatment within a serene natural setting allows men to step away from external pressures and fully engage in recovery. The campus environment is intentionally designed to support resilience, emotional regulation, and psychological safety, making it especially beneficial for men doing intensive therapeutic work while they are rebuilding their lives.

The Place - A Healing Sanctuary

What “Temenos” Means

The word temenos comes from ancient Greek and literally means “a piece of land set apart.” Historically, a temenos referred to a protected sanctuary—intentionally separated from ordinary life and dedicated to restoration, reflection, and transformation.

In contemporary psychological and therapeutic contexts, a temenos describes a contained, safe environment where difficult inner work can occur without threat or interruption. It is a space designed to support emotional regulation, self-examination, and healing—particularly when individuals are addressing trauma, depression, anxiety or deeply ingrained behavioral patterns.

At The Place, we use the concept of temenos as both a philosophy and a clinical foundation. Our residential treatment setting is intentionally structured to create clear boundaries from daily stressors, external demands, and constant stimulation. This protected environment allows men to slow down, stabilize their nervous systems, and engage fully in trauma-informed, evidence-based treatment. Within this sanctuary, residents are supported in exploring their personal histories, grief, shame, relational wounds, and hopes for recovery—without the pressures or distractions of everyday life. The setting itself becomes part of the therapeutic process, reinforcing safety, containment, and the conditions necessary for meaningful psychological change.

The Place is designed as a modern temenos—a healing sanctuary where restoration, accountability and lasting change can take root.
