WHAT WE TREAT

Transform Your Life at The Place

At The Place, we support men whose lives have been disrupted by unhelpful thoughts and behaviors often shaped by trauma, insecure attachment, depression, anxiety, or other mental health challenges. These issues rarely occur alone and can deeply affect relationships, work performance and financial stability. Each section below links to more detailed information on concerns such as compulsive behaviors, depression, anxiety, PTSD and betrayal trauma.

If you recognize yourself in more than one of these areas, you’re not alone. Many conditions overlap. During admission, you’ll receive a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment so we can develop a personalized treatment plan. Our team focuses on treating you as a whole person—integrating your unique history, strengths, and goals—rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all treatment approach.

Many men who come to The Place struggle with depression and anxiety alongside compulsive or impulse-driven behaviors. Compulsive behavior occurs when someone feels driven to repeat actions—even when those behaviors are harmful, distressing, or misaligned with their values—and despite repeated attempts to stop. These patterns often involve difficulty regulating urges, intrusive thoughts, and a growing sense of being out of control. Common examples include compulsive sexual behavior, excessive pornography use, problematic gambling, and unhealthy internet overuse. Over time, these behaviors can cause significant emotional pain, relationship damage, and fear for both the individual and their loved ones.

At The Place, we treat compulsive behavior as a clinically recognized, treatable condition, not a moral failure. Our integrated, trauma-informed approach addresses the underlying drivers—such as depression, anxiety, and unresolved trauma—helping men restore stability, rebuild self-control, and live in alignment with their values.

Many men arrive at The Place experiencing significant depression and anxiety, often alongside impulse-control difficulties. Anxiety may feel like constant worry or fear that makes it hard to relax or feel grounded. Depression often shows up as emotional numbness, hopelessness, or loss of interest in work, relationships, and daily life.

Depression often shows up as emotional numbness, hopelessness, or loss of interest in work, relationships, and daily life.

We provide comprehensive, individualized treatment to help men stabilize, regain emotional balance, and reengage with life. For a small subset of clients with treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, or trauma-related symptoms, we offer carefully structured Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) as part of a broader residential treatment plan. Ketamine is an FDA-approved medication with evidence supporting its use in conditions such as major depressive disorder, PTSD, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Trauma occurs when overwhelming experiences exceed a person’s capacity to cope, leaving the brain and body stuck in patterns of hypervigilance, shutdown, or emotional reactivity.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) develops when these nervous system responses persist long after the threat has passed. Trauma and PTSD often originate in adverse childhood experiences, such as emotional neglect, chronic fear or shaming, bullying, or physical or sexual abuse. They may also result from adult trauma, including violence, medical emergencies, accidents, natural disasters, or witnessing serious injury or death. Chronic or complex PTSD can develop after repeated or prolonged exposure to trauma, as seen in military service members, first responders, and others exposed to ongoing high-stress environments.

At The Place, treatment focuses on helping the nervous system regain regulation and safety, repairing disrupted attachment patterns, and restoring the capacity for connection, choice, and emotional resilience—so healing occurs at the source, not just the symptoms.

Betrayal trauma occurs when trust is deeply violated by a person or system relied upon for safety, care, or stability. In some cases, this trauma is reinforced through trauma bonds—attachment patterns formed through repeated cycles of harm followed by reconciliation or affection.

These dynamics can create intense emotional confusion and a survival-driven sense of loyalty, making it difficult to leave harmful relationships. The impact often goes far beyond emotional hurt, disrupting a person’s sense of safety, identity, and trust. With skilled, trauma-informed care, betrayal trauma can be healed. Treatment focuses on restoring emotional regulation, rebuilding trust, and supporting the development of healthier, more secure relationships.
