At The Place, we do not believe that one model, one approach, or one theory can attempt to heal the deep, tangled emotions our clients face. Compulsive behavior, trauma, depression, anxiety, and relationship breakdown all interact with a man’s mental and behavioral health. Our approach is built as an integrated system. Medical care, psychiatry, trauma work, nervous system regulation, group and individual therapy, optional ketamine assisted psychotherapy, family work, and after-care services have been created to work together in a carefully sequenced way.

When you come to The Place, you are not signing up for a “spa and therapy” experience. You are entering a structured, trauma-informed residential program designed to stabilize the nervous system, deepen understanding of how the brain and body have adapted to stress, as well as support meaningful, neuroplastic healing.
Our work begins with stabilization and rebuilding. As clients become more grounded, the focus naturally expands to insight development, relationship repair, and thoughtful planning for long-term recovery.

At The Place, residents follow a structured schedule that integrates multiple therapeutic approaches. No single session is expected to “fix” everything; each component contributes to reshaping how you understand your life and behaviors. You will meet regularly with your primary therapist, who helps you explore your history, patterns, and goals. This individual work provides a safe space to process shame, fear, trauma, and personal challenges that may feel too sensitive for group settings, at first. Together, you develop a clear plan for your time in treatment and for life beyond The Place.

Ketamine can be a powerful tool for some individuals; however, it is not a magic fix and is not appropriate for everyone. Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is considered for those whose depression, anxiety, or trauma symptoms remain severe or medication-resistant despite other treatments.
At The Place, KAP is administered in a medically supervised setting, with a trained clinician present for the entire experience to ensure therapeutic support, clinical safety, and comfort. This support also provides you with an opportunity to gain new insights, discuss your experience, and delve into the reasons for your thoughts and actions. All of these clinical tools help foster meaningful, therapeutic change.

Compulsive behaviors and secrecy affect everyone in a family system, not just the individual struggling. Partners and family members often experience betrayal trauma, intense anger, fear, confusion, and exhaustion, while residents may feel shame, grief, or anxiety about the potential loss of their relationships. To support families, The Place offers the Family Care Services program, led by marriage and family therapists and betrayal trauma specialists. This program provides a personalized treatment plan to help family members process their experiences, strengthen relationships, and navigate the recovery journey. A fee applies for this program, which may be covered by your health insurance provider.

Many men arrive at The Place with complex medical and psychiatric needs, including long-standing depression, anxiety, sleep difficulties, attention and concentration challenges, as well as the physical effects of chronic stress. Our goal is not simply to medicate symptoms, but to provide enough stability and relief for you to fully engage in therapy, group work, and holistic treatments. Upon admission, each resident receives a comprehensive physical exam with our Medical Director and a biopsychosocial psychiatric assessment with our Psychiatrist. Care includes weekly monitoring of vital signs, ongoing medication management, and regular nutrition consultations to support overall health and recovery.

At The Place, we complement core treatment with carefully selected holistic therapies that support and deepen recovery. Yoga and Tai Chi help calm the nervous system and increase body awareness, while art therapy and sound healing provide a safe, nonverbal way to express experiences that can be difficult to put into words. Equine-assisted therapy uses the natural sensitivity of horses to foster empathy, set healthy boundaries, and improve emotional regulation.
We also offer psycho-educational programs designed to explain, in clear scientific and psychological terms, how repetitive behaviors develop and provide practical tools to manage and overcome them.
